Dear MHS Parents and Students:
As we begin our sixth week of the school year, I want to update you on the current status of MHS. We have managed the Covid situation very well and our students and staff have remained safe. We currently have 34% of our students participating in remote learning and 66% in traditional face to face instruction. We have used all precautions to keep everyone safe and gradually increase to a safe degree of a normal atmosphere.
With adjusted schedules, our fall sports have continued to exist. I am very proud of our football team, softball team, cheerleaders, and band for complying with guidelines and keeping our spirits up. We had a great first home game in our new stadium setup. We were able to have Senior Night and look forward to other celebrations throughout the year. We will review each situation for the health and safety of all involved. Please continue to support these students with your presence, prayers, and support.
Academically our traditional students are doing great. The teachers have been amazing! They have adjusted their instructional methods to promote social distancing and safety. Most are teaching remotely and traditionally. Double duty – all smiles! Please know these teachers are working hard and a simple thank you from a parent or student can make their day. Our remote students are doing well also. This is a big adjustment for many students. Parents please check in and monitor to see if your student is logging on and working. Feel free to call or email the school and we will gladly review their progress with you. Progress reports were sent home with traditional students last week and were available for pick up by remote learners.
On Thursday, October 8th I will begin a series of virtual parent meetings. The first one will be at 7pm and will be directed to the parents of ninth graders. If anyone else would like to listen in they are also welcome. We will post the login link on the school website and Facebook page.
The last item I would like to address is the commitment to traditional or remote learning for second semester which begins January 7, 2021. Please talk with your child and make a decision. All parents or guardians must drop by the school if they are going to change their student’s current status and sign a commitment form on or before October 23, 2020. The office is open daily from 7:00am until 4:00pm. You only need to do this if you are changing from remote to traditional or traditional to remote. If no commitment is signed we will assume you are staying with your current learning method and courses will be given accordingly.
If you sign up to make a for your student’s current learning status for next semester and your situation changes, you will have until Jan. 12 to request a change.
Thank you for sharing your student with us at MHS. Please know that we are committed to providing a safe and productive learning environment. Every moment counts, Every student matters at MHS.
